A B O U T
Zoe Kamil is a playwright, theatre artist, and educator. She writes about intersections of sex, race, gender and privilege with a flair for pop culture. Her writing is a hybrid between a middle finger, a hair flip and a wink. Many of her plays explore the intricacies and toxicity of “white girl culture.” They also tend to have dance parties in them.
Zoe’s work has been workshopped and produced at Dixon Place, Workshop Theatre, The Tank, The SheNYC Festival, Young Playwrights Inc. (NYC), and The Blank Theatre (LA), among others. Her writing has been featured in the Proscenium Journal and on Howlround.com. Along with artistic partner Miranda Cornell, she has been named a "Woman to Watch" by The Interval.
As an educator she is dedicated to delivering community-driven, equitable and accessible arts programming to young people of all ages, with a special focus in fostering young people’s individual voices as storytellers. She has taught theatre, playwriting, & more in a wide array of settings in NYC and Boston.
As the Associate Director of Semicolon Theatre Company (2013-2017), an organization dedicated to the development of new work by and for young adults, she co-produced three seasons of Off-Off Broadway premieres at Access Theatre, The Wild Project, and the Kraine Theatre in NYC.
Zoe holds a BA cum laude in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Writing for the Stage from Marymount Manhattan College and an MA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre from Emerson College. She is currently a full time theatre teacher at Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
